"Awareness" is a game concept using limited knowledge on Bitsy, to put the player in control of a small robot that quickly realized that they are in fact, a video game avatar -- as they try to escape their simulated life.

Goals:

  • Breaking the Game: Switching between normal and "broken" levels.
  • Inventive ways to traverse: More ways to move around than just tunnels.
  • Mixed perspective: Switching between top-down and side-scrolling effortlessly.
  • Devolving environments: Levels get more distorted as the player progresses.

Examples:

  • Manipulating Bitsy's limited palette choices, I was able to give the illusion of "breaking" the game by transforming the levels into visual binary.
  • Doors are used to transport the player.
